Terms of Submission

We review poetry on a rolling basis, but ask that you please do not submit more than twice in a twelve-month period. You may send up to five poems (in a single document) per submission. Our response time is around 4 months.

We are interested in original, unpublished poetry. We do not consider work that has appeared elsewhere. This includes websites and personal blogs, even if a posting has been removed prior to submission.

We do consider translations, so long as the poem has not been published in English translation before. The original text may have been published elsewhere.

Simultaneous submissions are welcome, provided that you notify us promptly if a poem has been accepted by another publication. NOTE: If you need to withdraw individual poems from consideration, please click on the title of your submission, click on the "Activity" tab, and leave a note detailing which poem(s) should be withdrawn. Please only use the "Withdraw" function if you intend to remove all poems from consideration.

Submissions for our Featured Poetry category are open year round to poets at any stage of their career. Featured Poems are published online only and will spotlight a number of poems from new authors each month. We highly encourage emerging authors to submit.

We also warmly invite under-represented and marginalized voices of all colors to submit. Our aim is to be an accurate representation of the diversity of our beautiful community. Your voice is valued here.

• Submissions are open for Indian poets writing primarily in English—other languages are also welcome to be included.
• Send us only your best. We will be extremely selective.
• We accept simultaneous submissions—just please send us a note if your work is picked up elsewhere (We want to say congrats!)
• All submissions must be no more than 5 pages and no more than 5 poems.
• We do not accept multiple submissions. Please submit all your poems in ONE document.
• Please include a cover letter with your publication history
• Expect 4-6 weeks for a response

AUTHOR’S RIGHTS

KVMT holds first publication rights for three months after publication. Authors agree not to publish, nor authorize or permit the publication of, any part of the material for three months following first publication. For reprints, we ask for acknowledgment of its publication in KVMT first. Any exception to this rule may be obtained as a written permission from KVMT.
